All the children encouraged each other as well as the other teams involved, true sportsmanship indeed!

  • JET-PROPELLED JAMIE AND TORNADO TOM

    Thu 04 Jun 2015

In an amazing time of 8 minutes 38 seconds Jamie (Year 4) won the silver medal at the East Anglian orienteering championships at Hylands Park.  Only 9 seconds behind him unlucky Tom (Year 5) looked certain of a medal, but was narrowly beaten into 4th place.  The boys won the primary team category with Oliver (Year 6) contributing a fast time to their winning score.

The girls were also on fire with Lucy (Year 6) taking silver, closely followed by Amy (Year 5) with the bronze medal.  It was team silver medals for the girls.  Only 1 point separated Lucy, Amy and Evie from the winners of the primary team category.

Our very young team performed incredibly well against predominately Year 6 opposition.  A special well done to Ryan (Year 3) who came 10th in a time of 10 minutes 3 seconds.  Ben (Year 2), Harvey (Year 3) and Izzy (Year 5) all made short work of their first solo runs.

Many congratulations to the whole team who were a real credit to St. Andrew’s.  The final league event of the season is at Highwoods Country Park, Colchester on Sunday, 14th June.

  • HOUSE FIELD EVENTS

    Wed 03 Jun 2015

Congratulations to each and every child in Years 5 and 6 on making the field events section of the house athletics festival so memorable and enjoyable.  The weather was kind to us on Wednesday and the children paraded to the field in their house colours proudly led by the Sports Captains with their banners held aloft.  Emilia, Louis D, Fern, Katy, Shayne and Louis P presented a spectacular opening ceremony.  It was an action packed display of cartwheels, arab springs, dive forward rolls and front flips which the 6 talented gymnasts had choreographed themselves.  Their classmates provided a colourful backdrop to the gymnastics by circling coloured ribbons in the 4 house colours to create St. Andrew’s version of the Olympic rings.

The athletics got underway with each child competing in a chosen activity and earning points towards the House Field Events shield.  As usual the effort and sporting behaviour of the children was second to none and every jumping and throwing event was closely contested.  Results:

    High Jump: 1st Boy Oliver P (1.05m); 1st Girl Ellie F (1.08m)

    1st WATER (41 points); 2nd FIRE (37 points); 3rd= AIR and EARTH (32 points)

Water House Sports captains, India and Jack R, stepped forward to receive the shield from Lottie.  It was lovely to welcome her back to St. Andrew’s.  Mrs Hartley would like to thank Lottie, Mrs Ship, Mrs Toms, Miss Hazelwood, Mrs Root, Miss Williams, Mrs Harris, Mo and Miks for running the activities so efficiently. The scores will be carried forward and added to the Sports Day totals.
