  • WATER HOUSE MAKE A SPLASH!

    Fri 27 Feb 2015
Congratulations to Year 6 Water House on winning the House Swimming Gala, but with only 3 points separating the top 3 teams the competition couldn't have been closer. Just a fingertip separated Rosy (Air) and Ben (Earth) in their 50m front crawl race. The 25m front crawl race was equally fiercely contested as Sam (Air) and Mia (Earth) touched within a fraction of a second of each other. Ellie (Air) and Lucy (Water) produced another nail-biting finish in the 25m breaststroke race. Liam (Earth) clinched victory in the 25m backstroke race. Despite gaining 3 individual first places Air House had to settle for third spot overall. The relays carried double points and it was here that Water House showed the strength and versatility of their team. They took first place in the medley relay and second in the freestyle relay. Water House Captains, India and Jack, stepped up to receive the shield on behalf of their team. Results: 1st Water 2nd Earth 3rd Air 4th Fire Congratulations to all our Year 6 swimmers on a wonderful sporting contest.

  • WHAT IS QUICKSTICKS?

    Thu 12 Feb 2015
Quicksticks is a fantastic new sport for primary age children; a junior version of hockey. Thank you to everybody who donated Active Kids vouchers from Sainsburys last year. We exchanged the vouchers for a class set of Quicksticks hockey sticks and balls so all KS2 children have been able to learn the skills and play lots of fun mini-games. The Quicksticks Club for Years 5 and 6 has also proved very popular with after-school sessions on the Ramsey astroturf and netball courts. All club members were very excited to receive an invitation to the district Quicksticks tournament at Phoenix Hockey Club in Braintree. We entered 2 teams and both the ‘reds’ and the ‘blues’ looked very smart in their school kits. The matches were played on a brand new blue astroturf pitch. Playing positions were rotated so everyone had a chance to shoot. Tom M, Sam and Tom L. were prolific goal scorers, making a significant contribution to the total of 20 goals scored by our teams. India and Tahseen set a great example as team captains by encouraging our young Year 5 players as they competed against Year 6 opposition. Joshua was definitely not daunted by the older players and displayed an amazing work rate. The eagerly awaited final match was a head to head between the ‘reds’ and ‘blues’. It was played in an atmosphere of very sporting friendly rivalry and everyone had a brilliant time. The ‘reds’ triumphed 3 : 0. Final results: Reds: 3rd (won – 3; drew – 1; lost – 2) India, Sam, Ben, Joshua, Tom L, Eleanor, Katy, Fern Blues: 6th (won – 2; lost – 4) Tahseen, Liam, Bradley, Tom M, Katie-May, Ellie, Chloe, Izzy We are now collecting 2015 Sainsburys Active Kids vouchers. Please post them in the box in the school entrance. They make a very important contribution to the sports resources at St. Andrew’s. THANK YOU.
  • YEAR 6 GIRLS RELIVE LAST YEAR’S CROSS COUNTRY TRIUMPH

    Wed 11 Feb 2015
There was a distinct sense of deja  vu at the Level 2 Cross Country qualifier event. In almost an exact repeat of last year's race St. Andrew's Year 6 girls displayed complete dominance by claiming 1st (Mia), 2nd (Rosy), 3rd (Millie) and 6th (India). Not to be outdone our Year 4 boys' team, who were 2014 county finalists, showed their sporting credentials by taking 5 out of the top 7 positions, including 1st (Oliver) and 3rd (Jacob). There was a double gold celebration for brothers Zac and Seb. Narrowly beaten last year, Eleanor came back more determined than ever and this time won her race with a majestic sprint down the home straight. Determination was also the order of the day for Jack and Katie as they both battled hard for their 3rd places.
