  • ORIENTEERS SET NEW RECORD HIGH

    Mon 01 Dec 2014
With a fantastic score of 612 league points at West Harling Heath, St. Andrew’s recorded their highest team total ever.  Daisy Harrington, Jamie Hartnup and Amy Skeet all scored the maximum 100 points in their age classes on the white course.  Following our success at the British Championships we took the bold decision for many of our more experienced orienteers to run on the yellow course where they had to compete against older children.  They were certainly more than equal to the challenge.  A matter of seconds separated Zac Poter on 110 points and Liam Polley on 109 points.  Both boys had brilliant runs and were placed first and second on the scoreboard.  Lucy Walker maintained her great form, also scoring over 100 points.  Very impressive times were clocked by Oliver Prince and Ben Styman-Heighton too.

Congratulations to former pupil, Daisy Partridge, who has been selected for the World Schools Orienteering in Turkey next year.  Daisy started orienteering at St. Andrew’s.  She is a wonderful ambassador for the sport and it is great to see lots of St. Andrew’s girls following in her footsteps and taking up the sport this year.  Katie-May Blower, Charlotte Caswell and Izzy Peters are now regular members of the team.  Novice orienteers, Sophie Blower, Katie Higgins and Abigail Prince, are enjoying racing through the forest and solving the map-reading challenges.

As usual, our very strong group of boys put in great performances.  Well done to Louis Dove, Joel Hull, Tom Leader, Ben Partridge, Seb Poter, Ryan Skeet and Thomas Walker.
