CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR COUNTY FINALISTS

As Zac crossed the finish line he felt a mixture of relief and elation as the enormity of his achievement dawned on him.  The whole of St. Andrew’s cross country team celebrated with him.  Zac had executed a very intelligent race plan to come home in 6th position in the Year 5 boys’ Essex Championships at Garons Park in Southend.  Spurred on by Zac’s success, Mia took her race by storm and achieved an impressive 24th place culminating in a wonderful sprint finish in the Year 6 girls’ category.  Oliver proved his talent for distance running once again with his 15th place in the Year 4 boys’ race.  Each race had between 100 and 150 entrants from all parts of the county.

After a very long wait the team results have also been published:

Year 3 Girls (Grace, Freia, Connie, Holli, Daisy D, Rosie) 10th

Year 4 Girls (Angel, Katie, Rihanna Daisy H, Mikala, Yasmin) 9th

Year 4 Boys (Oliver, Jacob, Joe, Seb, Jamie H, Ben) 5th

Congratulations to our very young runners on a fantastic effort.  It was an amazing achievement for 20 of our pupils to represent North West Essex as St. Andrew’s was one of the smallest primary schools at the championships.  The Year 4 boys narrowly missed out on a podium finish, only 13 points adrift from the bronze medal position.

Mrs Hartley would like to thank all the children for their dedicated training and Mrs Challis, Mrs Hartnup, Mrs Martin, Mr Partridge, Mrs Poter, Mrs Press and William and Mrs Skeet for their invaluable help in preparing the team for the competition.
