Welcome to Year 5 Doves' Class Page!
Happy New Year! The children have settled back in beautifully after the Christmas holidays and are ready for the launch of this half term's topic, 'Oceans of Change', this week. Our curriculum newsletter highlighting what we will be learning this half term can be found at the bottom of this page.
'Oceans of Change'
Our topic for this half term is 'Oceans of Change', which is a science topic focused on materials: solubility, dissolving, solutions and separating materials. The opening scene of our class novel, Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell, is set in the middle of the English Channel and we will be exploring the science behind the salty seas to launch our topic.
As well as being at the heart of our learning in English, Rooftoppers will inspire some exciting art, dance and music. It really is the most beautifully written novel! We will also be making the most of the connections with Rooftoppers to enjoy learning linked to On the Rooftops of London from Mary Poppins! Our learning will be showcased on our next Hall display - watch this space!
For any children wanting to throw themselves into more of Katherine Rundell's incredible worlds, I have her full works and I'm more than happy for them to be borrowed!
Wednesday 19th December
My heart sang when the Doves asked for some independent reading time during the last three days of term! What a joy it was to see them relaxing with some great books, either with friends or lost in their own world, and sharing their reading with each other. I'm incredibly proud of you all for the journeys that you are on as readers!
